Plan a Walking or Cycling Route with Waypoints

2026-02-08Guide

Directions Planning: Walking, Cycling, and Driving

TrailNote can plan routes using a directions provider (walking, cycling, driving).

Choose a profile

  • Walking: great for urban exploration and short hikes on mapped paths
  • Cycling: better speed assumptions and bike-friendly choices
  • Driving: best for road trips and logistics

Use waypoints intentionally

Add waypoints to force the route through specific roads or landmarks. Keep it minimal: too many waypoints can make the plan harder to adjust.

If no route is found

  • Try moving a waypoint slightly (some paths are unmapped)
  • Switch the profile (cycling vs walking)
  • Use freehand for off-road segments

FAQ

How many waypoints can I use? Keep it minimal. Too many waypoints can cause failures or awkward routes.

What if a trail is missing? Use freehand to draw the off-road section.
